ArcheoWalk is a short walk in and around the Basilica of Our Lady of Locusantu organized by the Municipal Tourist Office and led by Daniele Fadda, art historian of the University of Cagliari.
The real historical and geographical focus of the town and territory of Luogosanto, the church dedicated to the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary is a minor basilica built in the 13th century by the first Franciscan friars and then restored and enlarged several times. The simple late-Romanesque forms and the austerity of the exposed granite blocks are balanced by the care of the ornaments in the three-nave interior. In the altar there is a wooden statue of the Madonna di Luogosanto, object of great popular devotion by the Gallura faithful and for this crowned "Regina di Gallura". The legend of the finding of the statue is decorated in a bronze bas-relief in the external panel of the holy door, which is opened every seven years for pilgrims who ask for the indulgence of sins. During the ArcheoWalk, thanks to dr. guide Daniele Fadda, the greatest scholar of the basilica, will be able to retrace the 800 years of his history and learn more about all the frescoes, sculptures and architectural elements that compose it.
